Here is the email....
Since starting the pilot, the main thing I found I needed was to develop my moodle site for AP Chemistry. I have used it to put links to worksheets, podcasts, videos, articles, and quizzes. The online quizzes give me formative assessment on a daily basis, they are graded instantly and I spend less time grading homework assignments.

With moodle, I have put up links for a practice free response quesion, the students answer it by replying as a journal response where I give them instant feedback during class and a grade. Even though I still lecture, those that need more time to figure things out can go back and watch a video reteaching the material as many times as they need and they can work more at there own pace so the iPad becomes a means of differentiation.

My daily agenda looks something like this:

Play 5 minutes of Mahjong Chem reviewing oxidation states
Log into moodle and go to the practice free response on reactions, after solving submit as journal entry
Watch 7 minute video on electrochemistry
Open today's worksheet
Work through 1-15
10 minutes before class ends, take the electrochemistry quiz and submit.

There are so many apps that can be used in Chemistry:
Mahjong Chem offeres review games on polyatomic ions, oxidation states, solubility rules, and more
Chemistry Flashcards
Periodic Table
Ions
Chemical
CLEP Chemistry 101
Molecules
ChemPro

Other apps that I use often are eClicker (works like CPS except the student version is free and the teacher version is only 9.99. I send questions and they submit right from their iPads), Whiteboard (no more messy markers and erasers....they can show you an answer by flipping their iPad around for you to see or they can simply connect to your iPad and you can share their screen. I can write immediate feedback on their work!)

This is an email from my AP Chemistry listserv about using the iPad in the
Chemistry classroom. Not sure what to do with it but don't want to lose it! Maybe someone can use it too. The Moodle stuff would be fun to try...
Hmmm... my comment was too long so I will try to copy the email on another page.
